Tonight, the UFC holds UFC 259 at Apex in Las Vegas. The ESPN+ streaming pay-per-view card features three title fights at the top of the card.
In the main event of the ESPN+ streaming pay-per-view event, UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya moves up to light heavyweight to challenge Jan Blachowicz for his 205-pound title belt. In the co-headliner, two-division women’s champion Amanda Nunes puts her featherweight title on the line against Megan Anderson. Before those two title bouts, bantamweight champion Petr Yan tangles with No. 1 ranked 135-pound contender Aljamain Sterling.
Adesanya is unbeaten as a pro-MMA fighter. He won his 20th career fight in September when he scored a second-round TKO win over Paulo Costa. That stoppage win was his second defense of the UFC middleweight crown. Adesanya joined the UFC in February 2018. His record with the promotion is 9-0.
Blachowicz claimed the vacant UFC light heavyweight crown in September when he knocked out Dominick Reyes in the second round of their matchup. Blachowicz has a career record of 27-8. He joined the UFC in 2014. Blachowicz had a rough start with the promotion, opening his UFC run with a 2-4 record. Since October 2017, he is 8-1 and on a four-fight winning streak.
Nunes had won and defended the bantamweight crown three times before she moved up to 145 pounds to face Cris Cyborg in December 2018. She scored a 51-second knockout win over Cyborg to claim her second UFC belt. Nunes then defended the 135-pound title twice before she made her first defense of the featherweight crown. That fight came in June when she defeated Felicia Spencer by decision.
Anderson joined the UFC in 2018. She had won the interim Invicta featherweight title prior to making her UFC debut. Anderson is 4-2 in the UFC. She is on a two-fight winning streak. Her most recent win was a first-round submission victory over Norma Dumont Viana in February of last year.
The 28-year-old Yan won the vacant bantamweight crown in July with a dominant performance over former featherweight champ Jose Aldo. Yan scored a fifth-round TKO win in that contest. Yan’s overall record is 15-1 and he is unbeaten in the UFC. The Russian athlete is 7-0 with the promotion. He joined the UFC in 2018.
Long Island’s Sterling earned his UFC title shot with five straight wins. He is coming off a first-round submission victory over Cory Sandhagen. Sterling is 19-3 overall. He joined the UFC in 2013. At the time, the 31-year-old was 8-0. Sterling’s most recent loss was a knockout defeat at the hands of Marlon Moraes. Before that, Sterling’s other UFC losses were both split-decision setbacks.
