None Of Marvel’s Avengers’ Decisions Since Launch Have Made Sense

This past week, Crystal Dynamics announced that it was increased the XP grind to level 50 for new characters, because they thought the linear progression system they had in place was moving too fast in its current form. Nevermind that this is six months after the game came out, it once again felt like a baffling thing to spotlight in a time when fans are desperate for signs of life that the game is still in all this for the long haul. And the biggest news item of the week is…more grinding?

I just finished reading an article on IGN called “Marvel’s Avengers Keeps Fixing The Wrong Problems,” and it mostly focused on the decision to increase the XP grind right now, touching on similar points that I agree with like how playing with a max kit character is the most fun you can have with the game, and delaying that progress seems like a bad move.

But the more I think about it, the more I question pretty much every major decision Crystal Dynamics has made since the launch of Avengers. I’m not talking about COVID-based delays and things of that nature I understand there’s no avoiding that. But in terms of what they’ve actually prioritized, I just don’t get it, and it’s not just this XP thing at all.

It’s not just the delays. It’s the decision-making. I’ll play Hawkeye in two weeks here, but I just feel like so much effort has been directed into the wrong places to help make this game succeed, and I don’t think I’m alone in that thought.
